Kidneys for Life Renal Research Labs, 2nd Floor Manchester Royal Infirmary Oxford Road Manchester M13 9WL
Chronic Kidney disease currently affects 1 in 6 people in the UK and this figure is increasing.
Kidneys for Life is all about the research. Our consultant kidney specialists, transplant surgeons and team of scientists and clinical research fellows focus their research to:
• Develop early diagnosis for patients with kidney disease
• Look into life changing treatments for children and adults suffering incurable kidney diseases. Develop better treatments for patients on dialysis
• Prolong the average 15 year lifespan of a kidney transplant
The MRI is the largest transplant unit in the UK, with the largest transplant waiting list – despite the number of transplants increasing by more than 39% over the last three years.
All of our research is for the benefit of kidney patients, both adult and children, across the North West.
And of course we share our findings and improved treatments with the rest of the world.
2018 is set to be a big year at Kidneys for Life as it will mark 50 years since the first kidney transplant took place at Manchester Royal Infirmary. There have now been over 6000 transplants take place at the unit.
We have some amazing events taking place that include a London to Paris cycle ride, Challenge the Wild, a spectacular Ball and culminating in our Grand Canyon Trek in September 2018.
